Getting assessed for ADHD, especially as an adult can be tricky. You mainly want to get assessed so you can access medication as the medication is very helpful combined with therapy for ADHD.

Here are some steps you can take in order to get diagnosed.

  1. Talk to your doctor. Some doctors will have enough knowledge about ADHD that they can do a short assessment/questionnaire to determine if you might have ADHD. If your doctor does not feel confident or does not have the knowledge, you can ask them to refer you to a psychologist. Only a doctor, psychologist or psychiatrist can diagnose/assess you for ADHD. An MSP referral to a psychologist currently has a wait time of about 1 year, which brings us to the second option.

  2. Going Private. Due to the long wait list to see a psychologist to get assessed, you have the option to get assessed privately. This does mean, there is a cost. We recommend the following places:

    1. West Coast Adult ADHD

    2. Glow Health

    3. All brains

    4. Center for ADHD awareness

  3. BeyondADHD and Frida. This is a monthly paid service that has a team of psychologists, doctors, nurses, and CBT coaches. They can provide the assessment as well as prescribe and mail the medication to you. You will have monthly follow-ups and check in's to see if the medication and dosage of medication is working for you. This service is helpful if you have just moved or live remotely and do not have access to a family doctor. https://www.talkwithfrida.com/, https://beyondadhd.ca/

  4. Assess my ADHD. Cost is $499. Assessment is done by a nurse practitioner.

  5. ADHD centre for women
